Information on firearms
At Bushveld Apex Safaris we will not pretend to be ballistics experts but rather hunters that through experience learned what works. The most important thing is to keep in mind is to use a gun and caliber that you can shoot well, more important than caliber is shot placement, a well-placed shot from a 6.5 will be more effective than a badly placed one with a .375, that being said African animals are tough and we recommend the use of a .308 or 30-06 with premium grade bullets like Swift A-Frame, Nosler partition, Hornady Interlock or monolithic bullets like Barnes x. Shooting distances in the area will generally be under 150 yards so heavy slow bullets are better than light fast ones in this circumstances. Almost all shots will be taken standing of shooting sticks, so you can practice doing that. A good quality variable 2-10 power rifle scope will be more than enough, because shooting distances are relatively short you don’t need high magnification.
If you want to avoid the hassle of traveling with a rifle and ammunition you can rent a rifle from us.
For shot placement reference there is an excellent book by Dr. Kevin Robertson "The Perfect Shot".

The hunting area is Malaria free. It comprises 3500 acres of open woodland and thick acacia bush, from loose sandy soil to a heavy clay substrate. This diverse bushveld area is ideal to accommodate all the different species of game animals found on our pricelist in ecologically balanced numbers to ensure a sustainable environment for the future. Our goal is to be able to hunt sustainable numbers of trophy animals for the long term without damaging the environment and the area is managed accordingly, culls hunts for females and non-trophy males will therefore be available from time to time. Please ask about it.
Gratuities
“How much should I tip my PH, skinner, tracker, and camp staff?”
This is one of the most common questions we receive.
Gratuities are never required and are always left to the hunter’s discretion. Our staff fully understands this. Any tip given is appreciated as a bonus for good service, not an obligation.
As a rough guideline only:
Tips may be given in US Dollars or South African Rand.
On a standard plains game safari, the usual tip for a Professional Hunter ranges from $70 to $100 per day.
For skinners, a guideline of $10 per animal skinned is recommended. If the skinner also acted as your tracker and worked with you daily in the field, consider adding a bit extra—especially when tough tracking or wounded game recovery was involved.
Camp and supporting staff may be tipped at your discretion.
We recommend handing tips directly to the individuals who earned them.
Insurance and Indemnity
Although we at Bushveld Apex Safaris take every precaution to ensure your safety and health we do not except any liability against injuries, illness, accidents and acts of nature. Please contact your care provider for the necessary coverage while you are on safari. Please Insure your trophies on route from South Africa to your country.
